Native Americans and Alaska Natives have considerably increased rates of substance abuse and addiction than other ethnicities, an an issue which should be addressed for these cultures to survive. Although the reasons may vary from individual to individual, most of the factors for the higher rates of abuse among Native American and Alaska Natives are cultural ones. The most apparent barriers to treating Native Americans and Alaska Natives for drug addiction are cultural differences and their language.
